Academic writing blues

I am experiencing enormous frustrations with the constraints of academic writing. See my Ardent Student post on this. I would love to hear from others as to how you've coped with this. Doug? Stephen? George? You guys are so much further down the road than me, how did you get there without being stifled?

Get your supervisor to do what they're paid to do! My initial thesis proposal was basically an extension of my blogging - indeed, I had pictures from my blog to illustrate what I was talking about.

Feedback from your supervisor can get you from where you are to where you need to be. Write what YOU want to write, then let your supervisor help shape it into something 'academic'. That's what I'm doing... :-)

Hmm. Good point, Doug. Now to find out who that is...
